When the Circus Came to Town

I used to have nightmares about mimes and clowns; they were part of this spooky world full of horror and darkness that I didn't understand; this world of "carny people" that would kidnap little boys and girls and force them to work in the circus. Where these notions came from I have no idea. Maybe fairy tales?
